As you may know I've had my little etsy shop on the backburner for a while to work on overhauling the basement, what was once a very open unfinished and dusty corner of the basement is starting to take shape as the drywall dust settles. I've been collecting some inspiration photos for quite some time now and I'm hoping the finshed product is somewhat of a mish mash of the following:

First on my list was wall color. I decided I wanted to go nuetral, and had my heart set on wallpaper. I found the perfect print available only in the UK for a mere $120 a roll plus shipping. Plan B. While shopping on etsy one day I discovered this fabulous little shop called Cutting Edge Stencils who specialize in trendy wall stencils for DIY home decor. I purchased their Rabat stencil in the small scale version and about a week and a half later it showed up at my doorstep perfectly packaged in a long triangular box. The wall color I went with was CIL brand "song porcelian" white. I wanted the stencil to be noticable, but not too contrasty so I went two shades darker with "wayside inn" for the stencil. Following carefully the instructions on the package away I stenciled.

...and stenciled... and stenciled. Until finally it looked a little something like this:

I purchased some basic billy bookcases on sale at Ikea, $29 a piece and painted the backing in martha stewart's magnolia for added interest. I'm planning on adding some crown moulding and trim to make these look built in, but I'll save that for another day. My big splurge was a fancy light from Carrington Lighting in Calgary. We opted for a warm medium walnut colored floor in a shiny piano finish for both rooms, since I'd be dealing with a lot of pinning carpet was a definate no no. I've slowly started moving my fabric collection and bins of craft supplies and kid crafts into the room, stay tuned for the finished reveal!

white out: diy mirror project

I've had this old vintage guilded mirror for quite some time now and never really found a proper place for it. Although fascinated by the look it just seemed outdated so shockingly I decided to paint it.

I chose the same color as I had done the wall in my sewing room, song procelain by CIL for a cool monochromatic effect, and remembered this tutorial from simplymodernmom.com on how to turn doorknobs into decoration on the wall. Luckily I had some old drawer knobs kicking around in my craft drawer. After about 4 coats of paint and a whole lot of scraping (note to self: protect the mirror a little better BEFORE painting next time) this is what I ended up with!

Fall Weddings: Purple

Purple seems to be the 'it' color for weddings this fall. Today I met the most adorable flower girl that is going to rock the show at her auntie's wedding this weekend in her new purple gown. The wedding is deep purple with a tangerine accent. Here is little Robby's dress complete with a fully adjustable corset closure, she should get a lot of wear out of this one even as she grows. The flowers and two-toned belts are all removable and repositonable to suit whatever mood she might be for the night, whether they are fastened to a matching hairbow or clipped to fancy shoes to dance the night away in.
